Keynote Speaker: Dr. James Waddick

Dr. James Waddick presented his program "Choice and Uncommon Shade
Plants Suited for Kansas City" at our Spring kickoff meeting on March 22, 2014.

  
Jim is a highly knowledgeable author, editor and publisher, and was one of the original founding members of the HHSPS.
Everyone really enjoyed his presentation and came away with great ideas for additions to their garden.
Dr. Waddick donated a "Prinsepia sinensis" to be given away as a door prize.  This  coveted item was taken home by
Eileen Phorr whose name was the first one to be drawn from the fishbowl.  Many other prizes (plants, books, garden art, gift cards, etc.) were won by members during the drawing.

Another wonderful feature of the spring meeting was the opportunity for everyone to take home some pieces of pottery donated by Louanna Simmons and her family.   Louanna has moved to a senior care facility and her massive collection of garden items is being auctioned to the highest bidder.  We at the HHSPS were very lucky to have our choice of pottery pieces (some of which Louanna made herself) to take home with us and we thank Louanna and her family for sharing so generously with the HHSPS membership.
